On May 3, 2019, the Conference Board of Canada released a report that said Canadian immigration is an important factor for current and future growth of the country’s economy. More immigrants are needed to fill jobs in Canada because of the large number of Canadian workers who are retiring from the labor force. According to the report, approximately 25% of Canada’s population in 2040 will be 65 years of age or older and combined with a lower birth rate, the economy will depend heavily on foreign workers to fill existing and new Canadian jobs. By comparison, 17% of the people currently living in Canada are 65 or above. Many high-demand jobs in Canada require a university degree and the report says that immigrants are in a strong position to fill these Canadian job openings. One reason is that a higher percentage (52.1 percent) of recent immigrants possess a Bachelor’s Degree compared with 24% of the people who were born in Canada. To read more, click here!
