Thousands of Permanent Residents Become Canadian Citizens at Ceremonies
Thousands of Canadian permanent residents took the oath to become citizens of Canada at ceremonies held during Citizenship Week in May 2023. Canadian citizenship ceremonies are normally held at different locations in Canada throughout the year. During Citizenship Week, 13,500 immigrants became new citizens of Canada at the 105 ceremonies held across Canada, which was almost twice as many as usually become Canadian citizens each week. Citizenship Week, which takes place at the end of May, is a special time for an immigrant to become a citizen of Canada, as the country celebrates the meaning of being Canadian. The government’s goal for Canadian citizenship was surpassed in 2022, with almost 364,000 permanent residents becoming new citizens of Canada that year. To read more, click here!
